   About Us

  Mission
The mission of Sunshine is to improve self assurance of youth and adult
clients through independent supportive living. Sunshine's aim is to
give our client positive directions that lead them to a safe place of normal functioning regardless of disabilities, race, religion and ethnicity. To carry out this mission we intend to offer improved living conditions, educational awareness and employment opportunities for the individual.

  Our Commitment
Everyone is treated with dignity and respect
Individuals live and learn as independently as possible in a supervised environment
Social, physical and emotional needs are addressed
Independence, self-determination, community participation and family involvement is welcome
FREEDOM   People with Disabilities have the same rights as all citizens. They will establish where they want to live, with whom they want to live and how their time will spend. They do not have to trade their inalienable rights guaranteed under the Constitution for supports or services.
SUPPORT The person with a disability will determine the organization of these resources. This means that individuals do not receive "supervision" and "staffing." Rather, folks with disabilities may seek companionship for support and contract for any number of discrete tasks for which they need assistance.
RESPONSIBILITY Is the wise use of public dollars. Dollars are now are used as an investment in a person's life and not handled as resources to purchase services or slots. Responsibility includes the ordinary obligations of American citizens and allows individuals to contribute to their communities in meaningful ways.

  Values and Philosophy
Independence Sunshine staff members are trained to encourage and empower
the people they serve to participate in their daily routines with as much personal
independence as they desire at work, at home, at school and in the community.
Our services focus on providing the resources that will help each individual
live where he or she wants to live with a positive quality of life.

Self Determination -Sunshine staff encourages each individual to participate
as fully as possible in decision making about all aspects of their lives.
We reinforce these four principles of self-determination:
freedom, authority, support and responsibility. The focus of our support activities is to
help people identify and pursue their own goals and dreams for their life.
It is also understood that as each individual's needs and goals change, the role and
responsibilities of our staff will adjust to accommodate those changes.

Community Participation - Sunshine staff is committed to encouraging a truly
valued lifestyle for each individual, making it possible for them to participate as active
members of the community. This commitment includes the freedom to choose where to live,
shop and travel, as well as the opportunity to develop meaningful and supportive relationships
with people who are not paid to be with them. This may mean providing assistance in developing
friendships with neighbors, people in local community groups, religious organizations, fun clubs,
    and other natural support networks.

Family Involvement Sunshine staff encourages family members, legal representatives and
guardians to become involved in the care we provide. Family members and guardians offer
insights into the individual's unique needs that help our caregivers provide key services to
enhance each Individual's lifestyle, activities and home. We welcome family input and feedback
regarding who is selected to care for the individual. Supports for community living is one of
the most important decisions a family makes and we want to ensure that our caregivers meet the
criteria each family sets for their loved one.
